Endometriosis

Endometriosis is typically seen during the reproductive years. It has been estimated that endometriosis occurs in roughly 6–10% of women. Symptoms may depend on the site of active endometriosis. Its main  symptom is pelvic pain.

Endometriosis is a  condition in which cells from the lining of the uterus appear and flourish outside the uterine cavity most commonly on the membranes which lines the abdominal cavity but also in ovaries. In addition to conventional treatments, we will offer  you  integrative  therapies such as diets and herbal medicine.

Excessive Menstrual Bleeding

This is usually known as Menorrhagia. A condition of abnormally heavy or prolonged menstrual periods with heavy bleeding.

Heavy menstrual bleeding is a common concern, and after  a complete and exhaustive evaluation, we will offer you both conventional and alternative therapies.

Uterine Fibroids

Fibroids are the most common benign tumors in females and typically found during the middle and later reproductive years.

While most fibroids are asymptomatic, they can grow and cause heavy and painful menstruation and urinary frequency and urgency. Some fibroids may interfere with pregnancy although this appears to be very rare. Symptoms caused by uterine fibroids are a very frequent indication for hysterectomy.

We will discuss all the treatments options before reaching the step of surgery.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a condition in which a woman has an imbalance of a female  hormones. This may lead to menstrual cycle changes, ovarian cysts, trouble getting pregnant, and other health changes. Some changes are (besides the changes in the menstrual cycle):

  • No period after you have had one or more normal ones during puberty

  • Irregular periods, that may come and go and may be very light to very heavy

  • PCOS can cause you to develop male-like characteristics such as body hair growing on the chest, belly, face, and around the nipples

  • Decreased breast size

  • Thinning of the hair on the head, called male-pattern baldness

  • Voice gets deeper

  • You may also have skin changes: Acne that gets worse, dark or thick skin markings

This is an increasing comon problem, so we will help you promote hormonal balance and support regular ovulation, whether with conventional therapies and /or  supportive herbs and supplements.

Menopause and Hormone Replacement

This transition from a potentially reproductive to a non-reproductive state is the result of changes in female hormonal  production by the ovaries. This transition is normally not sudden or abrupt, tends to occur over a period of years, and is a consequence of biological aging. For some women, the accompanying signs and effects that can occur during the menopause transition years can significantly disrupt their daily activities and sense of well-being.

We will consider all the therapeutic options available, both hormonal and herbal treatments.

Other areas of treatment will be:

  • Vaginal moisturizers to help women with overall dryness, and lubricants to help with lubrication difficulties that may be present during intercourse. It is worth pointing out that moisturizers and lubricants are different products for different issues: some women feel unpleasantly dry all of the time and they may do better with moisturizers all of the time. Those who need only lubricants are fine just using the lubrication products during intercourse. Low-dose prescription vaginal estrogen products such as estrogen creams are generally a safe way to use estrogen topically, to help vaginal thinning and dryness problems  while only minimally increasing the levels of estrogen in the bloodstream.

  • In terms of managing hot flashes, lifestyle measures such as drinking cold liquids, staying in cool rooms, using fans, removing excess clothing, and avoiding hot flash triggers such as hot drinks, spicy foods, etc., may partially supplement (or even eliminate) the use of medications for some women. Individual counseling or support groups can sometimes be helpful to handle sad, depressed, anxious or confused feelings women may be having as they pass through what can be for some a very challenging transition time. The risk of  cardiovascular deseases rises sharply after menopause, but the risk can be reduced by managing risk factors, such as tobacco smoking, hypertension, increased blood lipids and body weight.

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia syndrome is a common and chronic disorder characterized by widespread pain, diffuse tenderness, and a number of other symptoms. The word “Fibromyalgia” comes from the Latin term for fibrous tissue (fibro) and the Greek ones for muscle (myo) and pain (algia).Although fibromyalgia is often considered an arthritis-related condition, it is not truly a form of Arthritis (a disease of the joints) because it does not cause inflammation or damage to the joints, muscles, or other tissues. Like Arthritis, however, Fibromyalgia can cause significant pain and fatigue, and it can interfere with a person’s ability to carry out daily activities. Also like Arthritis, Fibromyalgia is considered a rheumatic condition, a medical condition that impairs the joints and/or soft tissues and causes chronic pain.

Symptoms of Fibromyalgia include:

  • Chronic muscle pain, muscle spasms, or tightness

  • Moderate or severe fatigue and decreased energy

  • Insomnia or waking up feeling just as tired as when you went to sleep

  • Stiffness upon waking or after staying in one position for too long

  • Difficulty remembering, concentrating, and performing simple mental tasks ("fibro fog")

  • Abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, and constipation alternating with diarrhea (irritable bowel syndrome)

  • Tension or migraine headaches

  • Jaw and facial tenderness

  • Sensitivity to one or more of the following: odors, noise, bright lights, medications, certain foods, and cold

  • Feeling anxious or depressed

  • Numbness or tingling in the face, arms, hands, legs, or feet

  • Increase in urinary urgency or frequency (irritable bladder)

  • Reduced tolerance for exercise and muscle pain after exercise

  • Feeling of swelling (without actual swelling) in the hands and feet

Fibromyalgia can be difficult to treat. Not all doctors are familiar with fibromyalgia and its treatment, so it is important to find a doctor that is well- informed about this "new"disease. Besides the conventional treatments for Fibromyalgia, many patients report varying degrees of success with complementary and alternative therapies, including massage, movement therapies (such as Pilates and the Feldenkrais method), chiropractic treatments, acupuncture, and various herbs and dietary supplements for different Fibromyalgia symptoms.

We will discuss all the therapeutic options in order to improve your condition.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Iritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a common disorder that affects your large intestine (colon). Irritable Bowel Syndrome commonly causes cramping, abdominal pain, bloating gas, diarrhea and constipation. Despite these uncomfortable signs and symptoms, IBS doesn't cause permanent damage to your colon. Most people with IBS find that symptoms improve as they learn to control their condition. Only a small number of people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome have disabling signs and symptoms. In many cases, you can control Irritable Bowel Syndrome by managing your diet, lifestyle and stress.

This is a long-term (chronic) but manageable condition. Treatment will depend on the types of symptoms you have and their severity, as well as how they affect your daily life, and will likely involve changes to your lifestyle. It is important that you work closely with us  to create a treatment plan that will meet your needs.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is the common name for a group of significantly debilitating medical conditions characterized by persistent fatigue and other specific symptoms that lasts for a minimum of six months in adults (and 3 months in children or adolescents). Symptoms of CFS include malaise after exertion; unrefreshing sleep, widespread muscle and joint pain, sore throat, headaches of a type not previously experienced, cognitive  difficulties, chronic and severe mental and physical exhaustion and other characteristic symptoms in a previously healthy and active person.

Additional symptoms may be reported, including muscle weakness, increased sensitivity to light, sounds and smells, digestive disturbances, depression, painful and often slightly swollen lymph nodes.

CFS symptoms vary in number, type, and severity from person to person. Quality of life of persons with CFS can be extremely compromised.

There is currently no universally effective treatment. Those treatments which have helped reduce particular symptoms in some people have unfortunately proved ineffective or even counterproductive in others. An early diagnosis together with adequate rest during the acute phase and during any relapse appear to bring the most significant improvement. With our integrative approach, we take care of all your symptoms, therefore enabling us to reach a better therapeutic aproach.

General Candidiasis

It will steal your breath, your energy, your life. It is a yeast found in minute quantities along with millions of beneficial B vitamin producing bacteria (Lactobacilli) in a healthy body.

Candida often first spreads in the Gl tract. Many symptoms can develop, such as gas, bloating, indigestion, heartburn, nausea, constipation and/or diarrhea, and major cravings for sugar, starches and alcohol, which are the foods the candida increasingly demands. The more of these candida foods that are consumed, the worse you begin to feel as candida proliferates, releasing toxins and interfering with digestion. We will build a personalized program for controlling candida and fungal overgrowth. This will be  achieved through three goals.

  1. The candida and fungal population of the body must be gradually, yet significantly reduced.

  2. The immune system must be strengthened, and activated to further deplete candida or fungal overgrowth.

  3. The health of the intestinal tract must be rebuilt. This may be accomplished through re-seeding the colon with friendly flora, and by normalizing the pH of the gastrointestinal tract.

Hormonal Imbalance and Thyroid Disorders

Some of the most common symptoms of hormonal imbalances are:

  1.  Persistent weight gain. Yes, there are lifestyle, diet and physical activity components to maintaining a healthy weight, but that isn't the end of the story. Many women have underlying hormonal imbalances that make it difficult to maintain a healthy weight. Unaddressed or emerging insulin resistance is one of the most common; small changes in diet — such as eliminating processed foods, sugars and wheat — are steps in the right direction.

  2. Belly fat and loss of muscle mass.

  3. Low libido. One of the most noticeable symptoms of hormonal imbalance is low libido, which starts with disturbed sleep. Without quality sleep your  hormone production can diminish.

  4. Fatigue. Mentally foggy? Easy dietary changes, such as eliminating wheat and most grains, will help stabilize your blood sugar.

  5. Anxiety, irritability and depression. Anxiety and depression are symptoms that  show an imbalance and toxicity, meaning that you are overworked, stressed out, and most likely aren't nourishing your body the way it needs. We will help you  listen to your inner voice and take the actions necessary to meet your needs.

  6.  Insomnia and poor sleep patterns. This starts the cycle of physical stress and increases cortisol levels, which directly causes many hormonal imbalances. There isn't one area of your life that insomnia doesn't touch. Here too, an integrative approach will help you "rebuild" a more normal sleep pattern.

  7.  Sweating. For many women, night sweats and hot flashes are the first uncomfortable sign that something is wrong in your hormonal system. Conventional and alternative treatments (based on plants for example) can help you to get rid of these "unwanted visitors".

  8.  Digestion problems and cravings. Gas, bloating and slow digestion are common hormonal problems that aren't usually associated with hormonal imbalances, but may be associated with eating bad foods, not chewing your food and eating too much. Common causes of cravings and excess eating are adrenal fatigue, insulin resistance, and other hormonal imbalances. Again, minimizing sugars, alcohol, dairy and wheat — although difficult — not only will help control cravings, but your digestive issues as well. With our help and a correct evaluation and guidance  general and digestive  health is attainable.
